Clogged Pores? What’s really going on in there?
The oil glands in your skin are generally pretty useful… They create sebum which is an oily substance to keep your skin hydrated. Sebum only becomes a problem when your body secretes too much. It gets trapped in your pores and promotes the growth of bacteria. This can lead to breakouts.
Whiteheads and Blackheads. What’s the difference?
Whiteheads occur when pores get clogged under the skin’s surface with oil and dead skin cells. They can be identified by whitish or skin coloured bumps. And usually form around the eyes or cheeks.
Tip: If you wear makeup or use skin care products which stop the evaporation of water from the skin it can block pores and increase your chances of developing whiteheads. Be sure to remove them completely.
Blackheads form the same way. The major difference being they have a surface opening which turns dark when exposed to air. Or can sometimes turn dark because of a hair follicle.
Tip: To fight both kinds of breakouts your prevention should be to remove excess oil from the skin and censure your pores remain clear and water can dry from them.
Oily Skin. What can you do about it?
As a teenager your skin will naturally produce more sebum. You can thank the hormones for this… Even though this is all going on there are still ways you can take control of your skin. Use oil free makeup and hair products and keep your hands off you pimples. DO NOT POP THEM!
Tip: Ensure you get enough sleep to reduce your stress levels. Other ways we like to do this are meditation and exercise.
